Switcheroo

When my husband and I moved into the apartment we're in now 6 years ago, wow, I cannot believe it's been that long already! When we moved here, our son was just 8 mths old, and he finally had his own room. We had been living with my parents until we could find a place, so Andrew was sharing the room with us there. No biggee, he was a baby, plus our first so it was fun! When we moved here and was in his own room, it was a nice to have the space.

Since having our daughter, she's been sharing our room with us since she was born. First she slept in a moses basket I had gotten from my mother-in-law, and then in the crib. We rearranged the room to fit the crib and slowly the room seemed to get smaller. First came the set of drawers for tights, hair things and sweaters. Then came the toy box. We had talked about having our son switch with us so we could have a room to ourselves again, but that was mostly just talk. Until we found an adorable toddler bed for a really good price. We could use the mattress from the crib and she doesn't need a real heavy blanket yet, so we bought it!

We had talked about maybe switching the rooms that night, but with the amount of time it took to put the bed together and take the crib down, it just wasn't worth the hassle to keep them up any longer. So we just put her toddler bed in place of the crib. Suddenly our room seemed just a little bit bigger! She was a little apprehensive of it first, but once we reassured her it was alright, she climbed right in and went to sleep. She did just great last night in it! I was so proud of her.

So today I made the decision to put her bed in his bedroom and now they're sharing a room! I just couldn't wait for the hubby to come home and help. And ya know what, it honestly wasn't too much to do. Her bed doesn't weigh much and it's small.

I did have trouble laying them both down for their nap. But it came from her. So I put her in our bed until she fell asleep and then after he was settled down, brought her back in and now they're both sleeping. Let's hope tonight goes this smoothly!

Just Around The Corner

Where has this summer gone? We had a Parent Info Night last night at our son's school. We got his class list and walked over to see where his classroom is. I cannot believe he'll be a first grader! Where has THAT time gone?! Doesn't it feel like the last day of school was yesterday? And here we're about to start another year. We didn't really do any of the things I had hoped this summer. Camping was something I really wanted to do, but didn't even get close to. Not that this summer hasn't been a good one. We've been to the beach quite a bit and to the pool. My kids have had their share of sleepovers at Papa and Nana's house, so I'm not complaining. I guess I'm not ready for the routine that goes with school. If you were to ask my son, he'd tell you he's ready to be back in school. But there's a bit of a difference starting with this school year, he'll be going all day. The last couple years it's only been half days, so this will be a big change for him. But I know he'll do fine with the difference once he's back into the swing of things. Who knows, maybe this upcoming school year will fly by, too!

Is This Really Happening??

I am beyond ecstatic! I think we are in the beginning stages of potty training with my daughter. All day Saturday she wore underwear. Just for her nap did she wear a diaper. She stayed dry the whole day! I'm trying to get her into a routine so she can start to "get it." What's so cute is that she gets a huge kick out of wearing underwear. My mother-in-law sent some to her a few years ago, so they're the right size and just adorable! I know that girls will usually do these sorta things before boys, I mean, my son wasn't completely potty trained until he was almost 4. And with my daughter, she has to do things her way, or no way. So when she first started doing this on Saturday I thought she would be done with the whole thing by the end of the day. That is so not happening. She's all about going on the potty!

Today was a pretty good day, too. With the exception of church, she was using the potty and wearing underwear. I'm so proud of her! I really do hope that this is the beginning of her potty training. I'd love to not have to do the whole diaper "thing." Let's see where this goes!

Wordless Wednesday ~ Reruns Of A Good Show

I just LOVE this show! I have my DVR set to tape this whenever it's on, so when my kids go down for their naps, I have my FRIENDS to hang with.

Just The Two Of Us

This past weekend my husband and I finally had a chance to be alone, without our kids. We'd just celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary and had wanted to go away for a day and night. Nothing fancy, just a place that wasn't our home.

It was a great get-away. No worries, just us. The time was ours and we relished it! It gave us a chance to reconnect on a husband and wife level. With two kids at home and a busy life, we really needed this. I'm so thankful for the job God has provided my husband, it enables us to have these get-aways, to remember what life's like beyond Mommy and Daddy.

Summer Fun Photo Contest

This is the photo I'm entering for the 5 Minutes for Mom's Summer Fun Photo Contest.
What's a hot summer day without a cold, creamy treat. We always go for the ice cream.

Wordless Wednesday ~ My Cousin's Birthday

If my cousin were alive today, she'd be celebrating her 31st birthday. This is for her.

A Weatherman In The Making?

You know how kids will go through phases in their life where they are addicted to either a new toy or game, maybe a book? You try not to buy all the things that go with what he's into at the moment because you know, or you learn, that it's a waste because by that time they've moved onto something else. Yeah, been there, done that. Especially since for almost 4 years, it was just him. For my son, in all of his 6 almost 7 years on this earth, he's had so many "phases" with toys and games and books that it's hard to remember them all.

Last Christmas we bought him one of those Leapsters. He's been playing that a lot more lately, but that's fine, it teaches him new things. But something that he's picked up on in a huge way lately is the weather. As often as he can remember in a day he asks to watch the weather channel. They have a segment called Local On The 8's. And at first it started off with just wanting to watch the pictures they have for the local weather that day. Whether it'd be a sunny or rainy day. Now it's something he has to watch to see what's going to happen on that day. He's even more aware of what's going on outside. He'll say little comments like, "Looks like the clouds are not rain clouds, so no rain today!" He's not a fan of thunderstorms. He's all talk about watching it on the weather, but when there's a storm going on, well I'll just say what he says..."I'm freaking out right now!"

Lastnight we were out and about and our last stop was Barnes and Noble. So while Maddie and I were getting something from Starbucks, my son was browsing the weather book aisle. (if there is one) So my husband ended up buying this book:

Oh yes, all the way home he looked through this book. I myself had a chance to scan a few pages, and it's pretty interesting. Maybe this "phase" will be something he'll turn into a career someday. Or maybe this mommy is looking too far ahead to be thinking like that. Who knows?

Mondays...Not My Favorite Day

I know I'm not the only one to share that thought. For me though, I try and get all my housework done on this day. So that throughout the rest of the week if things need to be done here and there, it isn't a lot. Plus I'll have more time with my kids. I don't live in a house, so there really isn't a lot of work to be done. But I'm not trying to take away from the fact that housework is housework.

Although I'd like to say that today, this Monday, has been better so far. Am I crazy? I can be, but today we have a thunderstorm! I love them. My son doesn't. He loves to watch them on the weather channel, but when they are actually here, he's not a fan. My daughter could care less. I just like the sound of the rain falling and the occasional booming of thunder or lightning. Maybe when it's all done and over with, we'll go and find a puddle to jump in.

Expressions Of Love

When my husband came home yesterday from work, he had two things in his hands.

And for me...

What can I say, we're a couple of lucky girls!
